Some believe that it's a relic from an ancient civilization (maybe the men on the picture or the people in the music video for Knights of Cydonia have to do something with it), some believe it's like the face of god looking at us. You can kinda see the face when you look at the mountain that's more up on the picture. You can also see some of these mountains in the background of the cover.Ĭydonia also contains the famous "face on Mars", which gained interest in pop culture. But there is more: the table refers to Cydonia specifically, because there are high mountains with flat tops in that region, and those sorts of mountains are also called table mountains. ![]() There are obvious points that directly refer to Mars, mainly being the giant red desert wasteland and the earth peeking through the clouds. That's why he wanted to make it look like the men sitting around the table are on Cydonia, a region on Mars. ![]() So, as I already said, the creator of this cover art got inspired by Knights Of Cydonia. He also wanted to make clear that the horsemen have outgrown their horses, that's why the horses are so small. I think these four horsemen fit this theme very well, because they'll come when the antichrist has become our leader, and Matt talks a lot about our leaders on the album tracks (especially on Exo-Politics)Īppearantly Storm Thorgerson was inspired by Knights Of Cydonia for this idea. This album is all about disaster scenarios, especially about how government conspiracy's will destroy the world. Each of their horses (which are on the table) represent a different consequence of what, will happen if the antichrist has all the power: the conquest, the war, the hunger and finally, the dead. ![]() These four horsemen, as it's described in the Book of Revelations, bring chaos to this world at the moment the antichrist rules over the land.
